From 1 July 2024, our esteemed and highly regarded colleague Michael Gorton AM is retiring from his role as principal at Russell Kennedy Lawyers, and remaining in a part-time role as a consultant at the firm.
With Michael’s transition to consultant, he will continue to be available for his current clients and he notes little will change in relation to client engagement or to the responsiveness and service our clients expect.
In relation to his transition from principal to consultant, Michael Gorton AM said, “I have been privileged to have worked with many great people, as clients and friends. The firm has allowed me to also have had many other roles with health organisations, medical colleges, government and education bodies.”
Michael started his career at Russell Kennedy on 1 March 1982 as an articled clerk and, very quickly, became a partner at Russell Kennedy in 1986.
Fast forward 42 years, Michael is consistently recognised as a leading lawyer by Best Lawyers Australia. He is a valued board member and policy advisor to government in the health and community services sectors. He has received many awards in recognition of his outstanding service, most notably his award as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2004 for services to the community.

Michael will continue his external Board roles as the President of Wellways Australia, Chair of Peninsula Health, Chair of Holmesglen Institute of TAFE and Board Member of Latrobe Regional Hospital.
