On Thursday 7 April 2022, Russell Kennedy hosted an online training session covering home care expenditure. This session was aimed at Home Care Managers and Care Managers/Care Coordinators.
Home Care can be difficult to navigate. Not only must providers manage a consumer’s needs and expectations within their budget, but providers must also ensure they are complying with legislation and guidelines to ensure that the services provided and items purchased with a package are not out of scope.
The legislation briefly sets out the criteria for what is allowed to be purchased using Home Care funding, however practically, it can be very difficult for providers to interpret and adhere to the legislation, particularly in light of the evolving interpretation by the industry and regulators.
In this session, we presented the following:
- What is and isn’t allowed to be purchased: what are the rules?
- What evidence you need to demonstrate that an item is allowed
- Examples of issues we have seen providers run into
- Key issues: everyday purchases and home modifications
- Consequences for providers who get it wrong
Attendees to this training gained a greater understanding of the rules around HCP purchases. They also received practical guidance about what purchases are allowed under the legislation and what documentation/evidence providers need to demonstrate that a purchase is allowed.
This online training was delivered by Anita Courtney, Principal and Johanna Heaven, Associate from Russell Kennedy’s Aged Care team.
This training replay will be available for a limited time and will expire on Monday 25 April 2022.
