John has handled all aspects of commercial property work for more than 20 years for major developers, banks and government. In addition to his commercial practice, he specialises in the area of retirement villages and aged care. He has a national practice with many of his clients being Australia’s major providers of aged care and retirement villages.

John often represents major peak industry bodies in their dealings with industry members and government. John was named the Retirement Villages and Senior Living Law "Lawyer of the Year" in 2013 and 2020. He has also been recognised by Best Lawyers since 2012 for expertise in Retirement Villages and Senior Living Law, since 2016 for Real Property Law, and since 2018 for Commercial Law.

Experience

Advising on all aspects of commercial property including sales and acquisitions of land, subdivisions, unit development, ‘off the plan’ sales and infrastructure agreements, including acting for Lendlease in relation to the 8,000 lot Caroline Springs development
Over 25 years' experience advising owners of retirement villages, aged care providers and peak industry bodies in relation to structuring, redevelopments, sales and purchases, resident agreements and lobbying government
Advising corporate, private and not-for-profit operators on regulatory compliance and corporate governance
Providing general commercial advice including buying and selling businesses, advising ongoing businesses in all aspects of business law and commercial contracts
Advising on securities law including preparation of debentures, loan agreements and other security documents and advice to major trading banks in relation to enforcement of securities
Acting for landowners and developers in connection with development agreements including negotiating with existing and incoming financers, settling the form of the complex legal agreements and associated documents
