Paul is the Managing Director of Russell Kennedy. He is responsible for the delivery of the firm’s strategic goals and provides oversight of its operations.

Paul also continues to provide legal services to a select group of long-term clients, who benefit from his substantial business acumen as well as his expertise in commercial law, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and competition and consumer law.

Having practiced commercial law for over 35 years, Paul comprehensively understands the relevant legal issues and challenges - indeed, has more than likely seen them before - and draws on his extensive experience to quickly identify solutions for his clients.

He has acted for a wide range of public and private sector clients. He also has particular expertise in intellectual property matters, including the commercial exploitation of intellectual property, trade mark and passing off disputes, and technology law and contracts.

Experience

  • Advising boards and directors on governance and strategy matters, particularly in the not-for-profit and disability sectors.
  • Acting in merger and acquisition transactions in a range of industries including professional services, retirement living and aged care, wholesale, retail and manufacturing.
  • Advising commercial organisations, municipal councils and statutory authorities on all aspects of competition law.
  • Obtaining informal clearances from the ACCC for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Advising on compliance with the Australian Consumer Law including notifications to the ACCC and conducting compliance training.
  • Negotiating the resolution of partnership and shareholder disputes.
  • Advising on business structures and restructures, including in relation to companies, trusts, partnerships, joint ventures and not-for-profit organisations.
  • Advising public and private sector organisations about intellectual property assets and trade marks.
  • Acting for public and private sector clients on the procurement of information technology goods and services.
  • Advising a diverse range of public and private sector clients on information privacy.
