Tamika is a lawyer in Russell Kennedy’s Government, Planning and Environment team and primarily practices in the areas of planning, environment and Local Government advisory.

She assists in advising clients on matters related to the new Environment Protection Act 2017, the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and matters associated with the land acquisition process under the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act 1986.

Tamika is focused on working with clients to achieve strategic outcomes that address the client’s goals, while managing financial and reputational risk.

Experience

  • Providing advice to local government councils and private developers on town planning and related matters
  • Environmental due diligence
  • Advising local government, water corporations and commercial clients regarding waste collection, transport, handling, treatment, reuse, recycling, energy recovery and disposal (landfill)
  • Providing advice to Local Government in relation to all aspects of carrying out a prosecution (from evidence gathering to the process through the Courts)
  • Acquisitions of land (including acquisitions by agreement) and claims for compensation including commencing the acquisition process through to resolving the claims for compensation either by negotiation or through litigation in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court
  • Appearances in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal

Contributing to RK’s Pro Bono offering

  • Acting for people seeking asylum and refugees before delegates of the Minister for Home Affairs, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and in the Federal Courts
  • Acting for people subjected to visa cancellation and seeking judicial review in the Federal Courts, including First Nations applicants impacted by the High Court decision of Love;Thoms
  • Acting for individuals applying for financial assistance from the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT)
