Our CPD Day is aimed at government lawyers who are holders of Practising Certificates, and who need to obtain points in the compulsory CPD categories before 31st March 2023.

This session will be relevant to all government lawyers.
Like all lawyers, those in government face daily ethical challenges but they also face unique ethical issues because of the nature of their clients. The webinar will address these issues through practical problem solving.
The topics that will be covered in the webinar:
- Paramount duty to the court;
- Who is your client, and ethical duties of confidentiality, integrity, independence; and
- Being a model litigant.

This session will be split across two key topics.
In the first half hour, Michael Dowling, Special Counsel and Shaun Burmester, Senior Associate, will take a look at the change in the Victorian Government Land Transactions Policy and key differences for Victorian government staff and departments to be across. They will then briefly speak to some practical examples of the application of the policy and its exemptions.
In the second half of the presentation, Samantha Taylor, Principal, Emma Dunlevie, Principal and Stella Wild, Principal, will consider issues relevant when entering leases including tips and traps for lease negotiations and the application of the Retail Leases Act 2003 (Vic).
