Russell Kennedy has advised the founders of Mobius Institute on its sale to US based global investment firm Battery Ventures.
The Russell Kennedy team was led by Principal Rory Maguire from the firm’s Corporate Advisory / M&A team, with assistance from Amity Jarvis, Senior Associate (Corporate Advisory / M&A), Jack Short, Lawyer (Corporate Advisory / M&A), Gina Tresidder, Principal (IP / IT) and Michael Cassidy, Senior Associate (IP / IT).
Russell Kennedy Principal and transaction lead, Rory Maguire, commented on the success, saying: “We were delighted to assist the founders of Mobius Institute on reaching this milestone, and we look forward to seeing the business continue to prosper under the leadership of Battery Ventures.”
Jason Tranter, the co-founder of Mobius, said: "My wife, Georgie, and I started the business in our house in 1999 with the goal of making vibration analysis and condition monitoring understandable. We never imagined Mobius Institute growing to this scale with almost 10,000 students trained last year alone. Having developed a relationship with Battery over the past several years, I am excited to see Mobius continue to grow under Battery’s ownership as the starting point of a new platform.”
Zack Smotherman, a Battery general partner, said: "We are thrilled to partner with Mobius and its exceptional staff as we pursue the next phase of growth for the business. Having followed the asset-reliability and condition-monitoring market for many years, we’ve observed an accelerating trend in predictive maintenance and believe we are still in the early innings of this movement as many industries increasingly adopt these solutions.”
Johnson Winter & Slattery advised Battery Ventures on the Australian legal aspects of the transaction, with Cooley LLP acting as U.S. counsel. Carney Badley Spellman, P.S. acted as U.S. counsel to Mobius Institute and its founders.
